Rapid Prompting Method (RPM)
Is an educational method for autism and related conditions. It empowers the student to communicate thoughts, reason, opinions and answers to questions. This is accomplished by assessing the open learning channels in the instance of learning. Students further can learn using RPM, self help task, leisure skills, and many other skills leading to independence. RPM was developed by Soma Mukhopadhyay. You can find her website here: www.halo-soma.org

Two friends doing art together and instructing the other on how to draw themselves. They add a little humor in the mix. I go back and forth between students saying the letters that the student touches. |

If any of the following sound familiar, H.E.E.D. can help:
1 Your child* (3 yrs-99 yrs old) is non-speaking or limited verbal, perhaps speaking a few words or phrases, but does not necessarily display complex understanding.
2-You have been told your child can’t learn, or perhaps has the intellect of a toddler. Your child has been working on the same task year after year (colors, matching, sorting, counting objects, ABC recognition, following one-step directions, etc.)
3 Your child has changed school(s) due to extreme behavior** or "low functioning" ability, and has perhaps reached a learning “plateau”.
4-You have a desire to know what your child thinks, what he/she knows, what he/she is capable of learning, why he/she cries, hits, or bites or engages in self-injury.
5-You sometimes suspect your child is intelligent, but don’t know how to access him/her.
6-You have been told your child is “low-functioning”, or has “severe autism” (or a related condition). OR alternatively, your “high functioning” child is capable of speech, but occasionally gets “stuck” and exhibits difficulties with output.
7-Your child can type or hand-write a list of words, or your child can already communicate in a limited fashion by typing or writing and you would like to develop communication further.
8-Your child has sensory problems and learns “differently” than other kids.
9-You want your child to function and have a fulfilling life.
10-You’ve tried EVERYTHING, etc…with minimal success (RPM works whether or not other therapies/methods have shown some or no success).
*Child refers to any age. We write ‘child’ for ease of reading, but we serve individuals of all ages.
**We don’t turn students away because of behaviors-including: hitting, kicking, biting, scratching, punching, spitting, feces smearing/chucking, etc.
